This cite was actually a poem written by someone who had experienced being a slave, and was expressing the way he felt through writing. The poem was very moving because it made you realize that he was held against his will and forced to do things that people would never do now and things were done to him that were so cruel and inhuman. It helped a lot with the subject I choose.
Williams, Carla and Deborah. The Black Female Body: A Photographic History. Phila. Temple University. 2002.
This was a book a photos that told a story. It showed how slaves lived, worked and did odd jobs for nothing. Pictures express things that writing can not tell and they show pain, and these pictures were filled with different emotions. It helped me better understand the time of slavery and some of the pictures described the trade and sale.
Melton, Alonza. A Slave: A True Story of Violence and retribution in Antebellum, Missouri. Athens. University of GA. 1991
This book told the real life story of what it was like to be a slave, how hard it was and of how the slavery seemed to be never ending. They went through many trials and suffered many times but knew that they had to stay strong for each other. This resource helped me a lot and just like the other sources painted me a mental picture.
